“All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.”
You may be familiar with this children’s hymn and during the month of May it aptly describes our Honey Tree curriculum themes. From insects such as ladybugs and bees to birds and animal mothers and babies the children are learning about all creatures great and small. In the preschool classrooms children are awaiting the emergence of painted lady butterflies from their chrysalis. Right on cue the milkweed plant on our play yard is full of monarch caterpillars and children are able to observe metamorphosis in a natural setting. Our Kindergarten class has learned about the incubation and hatching process of baby chicks.
May is also the month to celebrate moms and appreciate teachers. For Mother's Day children are making gifts and cards. Usually we invite moms into the classroom for a special circle time of stories and songs but this year due to Covid health and safety measures we will do it differently. Teachers and children will either use a zoom gathering or video to share their special activities with moms. In this pandemic school year our teachers have been challenged to accept new and different ways to include traditional events and activities. We deeply appreciate their flexibility and willingness to learn. One of Honey Tree’s strengths is definitely its teachers! How grateful we are for their commitment to early learning and love of young children.
Lord, you created so many things! With your wisdom you made them all. The earth is full of the
living things you made....creatures great and small. Psalm 104:24-25 (ERV)
